So, as some of you know, I recently bought a house, which means buying more stuff to fill the extra rooms I now have; as well as some renovations to make the place look less like I’m house sitting for some 80something empty nesters. And one thing has struck me - no matter where you go, Target, Wayfair, Amazon, local furniture store, even Home Depot, you run into crap with this pattern on it. Its on everything - carpets, shower curtains, pillows, towels, etc. Everything.
When something reaches this level of saturation, you just know its going to age badly. By 2030, we’re going to be beyond sick of it, and it will be seen as this decade’s equivalent of those sickly flower bouquets from the 1970s.

it’s a pastiche of moroccan patterns and quatrefoil, it was old hat in the 17th century. Things go around in circles in odd ways.
I like the blue though, it’s pretty much what I plan to paint my not yet bought Cafe racer tank and now I’m starting to wonder if the moroccan print would suit as well.

Similar to the ugly 90's fake ivy trend.

I think we have a throw pillow or two in that color pattern, but I will do nothing else in it.

Dodged that one growing up - my mom hates cleaning, so no unnecessary dust collectors in the house. Fake plants would have to have been dusted more than once or twice a year.

If you have time to find it, listen to the 99 percent invisible podcast on the subject. It’s called the fancy shape or something like that.

I remember that trend. It ran well into the 00s in UT. It wasn’t just ivy, either, it was many types of fake foliage/flowers.
And, yes, it was always dusty.

I think it’s a nice pattern because I like patterns, but it is so severely played out.
Like the way people keep putting wood siding inside houses and painting it (which, by the way, was played out decades ago, just with more stylish designs than the modern shit). Barn doors already look shitty yet that isn’t stopping anyone from putting them everywhere as well.
I believe that HGTV has left us in a time warp on interior design. Very little changed appreciably from around the peak of the last bubble until the last year or two when they had something new to make shows about (and in the interim they were in Canada, which is apparently mostly 10+ years behind the US in design anyhow). Most of the recent stuff has been those stupid text signs, patterns like this with bold accent colors, subway tile (hideous), other patterns of tile on walls in kitchens (reminds me of the 1960s...and Mexico (no offense)), and some of the stuff I mentioned above.
Oh well, my house is in a time warp from like 2007-2010 as well, aside from a handful of light fixtures, artwork, and wall paint. We have more modern furtniture, too, but it’s very “classic” American style. About to get a more modern kitchen sink, though, which is very exciting. Single basin, stainless with sharp corners and a single central drain that recovers some under-counter space.
I have always liked the geometric pattern duvet cover my wife got like 10-ish years ago. It’s pretty timeless in my opinion:

HGTV is doing to architecture and interior design what MTV and the consolidation of radio stations already did to music.

And I’m fine with sparing use of it in context, its the fad over the past decade or so of putting it on absolutely everything made of fabric in a repeating pattern that is just so played out and needs to end. I mean, its at the point where you kind of have to try a bit to find something that doesn’t have it.

It’s not as bad as the Farmhouse Decor trend. In 10 years it will be right up there with the 90's Gold Trend, or the 70's Panelboard Era.
I can see the posts now. “Looking for someone to take down our reclaimed wood accent wall/shiplap and remodel our bathroom.”

My place isn’t as bad, or the pattern from the OP?
I think a lot of my list comes from the “farmhouse” style, but they also love to do some awful things to kitchens. Tiling a wall is the next step beyond wallpaper in making someone suffer when trying to fix your bad decisions.
That gold stuff was horrible, too. They did some in silver that was similarly-bad, but at least it doesn’t look as horribly outdated.

Oh, that wasn’t in regard to your photo. I was just saying the current pattern the OP posted isn’t as bad as bad as the Farmhouse trend. It’s a lot easier to throw away fabrics, than to take down accent walls.

Some company came out with some wood accent wall stuff with low end double sided foam tape applied to the back. It was expensive and people were balking, but I thought, “hey, it might be more expensive than DIY now, but you won’t be spending a fortune removing it in 5-10 years”.
This is also how you know the trend has been played out.

We had a bunch of rugs with that pattern or something similar when we bought our house 3 ish years ago. We’ve replaced them all except the mat for the back door. One of the many reasons I love hardwood floors. when styles change or your rug gets dirty, it’s easy to switch things out.

We have that exact pattern on a rug in or family room. It's not THAT bad.
